A series of fan-made trading cards depicting the X-Men, The ColleXion was a labor of love that included wrangling 27 emerging artists to lend their creative forces to 58 individual illustrations of the popular Marvel characters, plus spearheading a research team to assign curated reading lists, quotes and creator info and commentary for each of the characters. The design is meant to evoke the aesthetics of the groundbreaking 2019 comics helmed by writer Jonathan Hickman, as well as the classic 1992 Impel X-Men trading cards by Jim Lee.
The disparate styles of the illustrations were an intentional choice to highlight the metaphor within X-Men comics, in which unique and wildly different individuals come together under a single banner.
